Symbols of Our Identity
Our heritage is rich with symbolism. We preserve these timeless traditions to ensure the meanings behind our rituals are understood by future generations.
The Oil Lamp
Lighting the traditional oil lamp (Pahana) marks the beginning of every auspicious event, symbolizing light, wisdom, and hope dispelling darkness.
The Betel Leaf
A sheaf of betel leaves (Bulath Atha) is offered to elders as a supreme sign of respect, gratitude, and the strengthening of social bonds.
Milk Rice (Kiribath)
Boiling milk until it overflows and cooking Kiribath is our first meal of celebration, representing prosperity, abundance, and new beginnings.
The Spirit of Giving (Dana)
In Sri Lankan culture, hospitality and generosity (Dana) are core virtues. ASLA ensures that our cultural celebrations always have a purpose beyond entertainment.
Through our "Culture for a Cause" initiatives, we organize fundraisers, blood donation drives, and support local Australian charities. We believe that preserving our heritage also means preserving our commitment to helping others.
